New Haven Says No to Deportations

The community rallied on January 6, 2016 in Fair Haven to tell ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to stay out of New Haven and Connecticut. The mayor, the police chief, and the superintendent of schools said they would not cooperate with federal officials to deport residents. Yale Law School, Unidad Latina en Accion and Junta for Progressive Action are educating residents of their rights and will support them if detained.

At an immigrants' rights rally in Bushnell Park on June 1, 2013 people celebrated passage of the Trust Act, which prohibits local law enforcement from detaining non-citizens at the request of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). They also celebrated passage of the Safe Driving Act, which allows undocumented immigrants to seek a driver's license starting January 2015.
